How Artisan works

How to pay rent with crypto when you hold USDC

Yes. Paying rent with USDC on Artisan works like this: you pay from your USDC balance and your landlord is paid in US dollars, so they never need to accept stablecoins. You find your landlord or property manager by name, enter the account number from your bill and approve the payment. On a $1,840 rent the processing fee and the Artisan fee come to $48.50, so $1,888.50 leaves your balance before any network fee.

Can I pay my rent with USDC if my landlord only takes a bank transfer?

Yes. Your landlord is paid in US dollars, so how they collect rent does not have to change, and they never receive USDC. They do not need a wallet or an account with Artisan. If your landlord is in the biller network (more than 100,000 billers, searched by name), pay the rent as a bill, as below. If not, once your identity check is done and your own account numbers are open, send the rent from Artisan to the bank details your landlord gives you, by FedNow or standard ACH. A bank transfer shows its own fee before you send. Artisan does not send paper checks.

How do I pay my rent from USDC?

You pay rent the way you pay any bill in the app.

  • Find your landlord. Open Move, choose Pay a bill, and type the first letters of the name your rent is paid to, as it appears on your lease or your rent statement.
  • Enter your account number. Use the number as it shows on your bill.
  • Enter the amount. The smallest bill is $20.
  • Add your details. Your name, street address, ZIP code and a US phone number.
  • Review and approve. Every fee shows on its own line with the total, and you approve the payment once.

What if my landlord is not in the list?

Search the name on your lease or rent statement first, because a property manager or a payment company may be listed under its company name rather than your building's name. If nothing matches, send the rent by bank transfer instead, as described above.

What one month of rent costs to pay from USDC

Say you pay each of these rents. The total is the rent plus the processing fee and the Artisan fee, before any network fee.

  • A $1,200 rent. Processing fee $26.50, Artisan fee $6.00, total $1,232.50.
  • A $1,840 rent. Processing fee $39.30, Artisan fee $9.20, total $1,888.50.
  • A $2,400 rent. Processing fee $50.50, Artisan fee $12.00, total $2,462.50.

The processing fee is 2% of the rent plus $2.50. The Artisan fee is 0.5% of the rent. What paying a bill costs works the same fees through three other amounts.

Will my fees match these examples?

The Artisan fee is worked out by the same rule as the example, 0.5% of the rent to the cent. The processing fee is priced when you ask for a quote, so it can differ a little from 2% plus $2.50. Any network fee depends on the payment. The review screen shows the exact figure for each one before you approve, and fees can change, so treat that screen as the final word.

How long until my landlord has the money?

The receipt in the app says usually within 2 days, so pay before the rent is due and not on the day. Why something is pending explains the waits you may see.

Do I have to sell my stablecoins first?

No. You pay from your USDC balance in the app, so there is no sale to make and no bank transfer to set up first. Where a payment needs a regulated step, a licensed partner handles it. Adding money covers how USDC gets into your balance.

Artisan Cash is a software company, not a bank, and a USDC balance is not a deposit and is not FDIC or SIPC insured. Read how your money is held and the risk disclosures before you pay your rent.
