If Artisan disappears
Your wallet is yours and it exists independently of Artisan. It is a wallet on a public network, not a row in our database, and what is in it does not depend on this company carrying on.
The failure this does not cover
Self-custody moves the single point of failure from us to you. If you lose access to your sign-in method and your recovery options, your funds may be permanently unrecoverable. Nobody can reset this for you, and that includes us.
Both of those are true at the same time, and neither one cancels the other out. Artisan failing does not take your money. Losing your own way in does.
What to do about it today
- Keep your sign-in working. The way you sign in is the way back to your wallet. Losing the email or the phone number behind it is the thing to avoid.
- Keep more than one way back. A single recovery option is a single point of failure wearing a different hat.
- Treat anyone who asks for your recovery details as a scam. Artisan will never ask you for a recovery phrase, a private key or a one-time code. Not by email, not in chat, not on a call.
If anything about your sign-in looks wrong, say so before you move money.
