What does Plastiq do?

Plastiq pays a biller for you when the biller will not take your card. You fund the payment with a credit or debit card or from a bank account, and Plastiq sends the money to the biller by ACH transfer, wire or paper check. Its terms of service, updated 2026-07-27, name cards, ACH from a bank account, credit from a third-party lender and any other method that Plastiq accepts, but they do not name crypto.

Who does Plastiq serve now?

Plastiq serves businesses first, and its terms still cover personal use. Its home page is titled Business Payment Platform and describes vendors, accounting software sync and approval permissions. The terms let you open an account if you are at least 18, live in the US or Canada and have a bank account in your name, and they license the service for business or personal purposes. A separate page for individuals lists rent, utilities, mortgage and auto loans, while short-term financing is for registered businesses only. Whether new personal accounts open today is not stated on those pages.

What does Plastiq charge?

Plastiq publishes 2.99% on card payments and a separate charge to send by wire, ACH or check: $8.99 for a domestic wire, $39 for an international wire, $0.99 for ACH and $1.49 for a paper check. Same-day and next-day delivery and overnight checks start at 0.2%. The pricing page, read 2026-10-07, says there is no subscription fee, and Plastiq can change these figures at any time, so check its pricing page before you pay.

Can Plastiq pay an American Express bill?

Not by card. The Plastiq terms list paying credit card balances with a card as a restricted activity, and American Express says on its own payment help page that credit cards and debit cards cannot be accepted for its card bill. That page points you to a bank account instead. If your money is in USDC, Artisan Cash pays the bill from that balance.

How does Artisan Cash pay a bill that will not take a card?

Artisan pays from your USDC balance and the biller receives US dollars, so the biller does not need to accept crypto or cards, and there is no sale at an exchange first. You find the biller by name in a network of more than 100,000, enter the account number and the amount, add your name, address and a US phone number, and approve the payment. What does an Amex bill cost on Artisan?

Say you pay a $725 American Express bill. The processing fee is 2% of $725, which is $14.50, plus $2.50. The Artisan fee is 0.5% of $725, which is $3.625 and rounds to $3.63. Together the two fees on a $725 bill come to $20.63, so $745.63 leaves your balance before any network fee. The review screen shows every fee before you approve and is the final word. When is Plastiq the better fit?

Plastiq is the better fit for a business that pays suppliers by invoice and wants to pay by card, because its pages describe accounting software sync, approval permissions, bulk payments and repayment on the next card statement. It also suits someone who holds dollars in a card or bank account instead of crypto and wants the bill on a card. Artisan Cash is not accounting software, and it pays from USDC.
