Secure your sign-in
Your wallet is self-custodial, so the way you sign in is the way into it. Whoever controls your sign-in can act as you, and Artisan cannot reset it or undo what they do.
Protect what you sign in with
You sign in with an email and password, a Google or Apple account, or a wallet app. Protect that account first.
- A strong password. One you use nowhere else.
- Two-step sign-in. Turn it on for that account. Prefer an authenticator app to text messages, and a hardware security key if the account supports one.
- Recovery options you control. Check them now rather than after something goes wrong.
Two-step sign-in in Artisan
- First. Open Settings, and under Security turn on Authenticator app.
- Second. Add Artisan to your authenticator app from the code Settings shows.
- Third. Enter the code your app gives you.
After that, signing in asks for a code from your app.
What we email you
We email you when your account signs in on a device we have not seen before, when your password changes, and when two-step sign-in is turned on or off. If one of those was not you, change your password and the password on your email account first, then turn on two-step sign-in, then get help.
Keep a second way back
Today your sign-in is your one way back to your wallet, because the app cannot add a second way in yet. A copy of your wallet's key is the other way back: see Export your private key. Read If Artisan disappears for what happens if you lose your sign-in.
What we never ask for
Artisan will never ask you for a recovery phrase, a private key or a one-time code. Not by email, not in chat, not on a call.
